Coriolis Duo
New York City-based Coriolis Duo (Catherine Boyack, flute, and Oliver Xu, percussion) seeks to bring contemporary repertoire to audiences with vitality and nuance. A recipient of the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council’s 2025 Creative Engagement Grant, they will present a world premiere by Ted Babcock in Fall 2025. The duo will also travel to Avaloch Farm Music Institute for a week-long residency in Fall 2025.
In recent seasons, they have performed at the Nicholas Roerich Museum, Kutztown University’s Wells-Rapp Center for Mallet Percussion Research, and Tenri Cultural Institute. Dedicated to promoting a new generation of composers, they have collaborated closely with YCA Composer-in-Residence Hannah Ishizaki as well as worked with the New York Youth Symphony’s composition program.
Boyack and Xu started playing together after graduating from The Juilliard School in 2022, when they were each awarded the Benzaquen Career Advancement Grant in recognition of their talent, promise, creativity, and potential to make a significant impact in the performing arts. They were both invited to join Carnegie Hall’s Ensemble Connect in 2023. During the two-year fellowship, they have performed in New York and Europe, worked extensively in schools, and brought accessible interactive performances to community venues.
Named after the natural phenomenon that influences weather patterns, Coriolis Duo is the result of their shared passion for expanding audience interest in contemporary music through engaging chamber performances.
